Seek, a social app that lets users find unique and trusted recommendations from local, like-minded curators, launched recently in the New York City Tri-state area.
Today, Seek Curator Irine Thomas (@dinewithIrine) is sharing her “out of the box” recs on where to travel this winter.
Rec #1
Cappadocia, Turkey

Located in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey, underground cities, rock formations and beautifully carved churches are just some of the sights attracting tourists from all over the world. Due to the sulfur in the turf, Cappadocia is also a unique and wonderful place for wine tasting! Cappadocia is also known for its hot air balloon rides over the peaks and valleys of this beautiful place. Sounds almost like a dream sequence!
Rec #2
Socotra, Yemen

There is nowhere else on earth quite like Socotra Island in Yemen. Socotra is located between the Guardafui Channel and the Arabian Sea, and is the largest of the four islands in the Socotra archipelago. Although Socotra is part of Yemen, it is geographically located in Africa. The island is known to some as “the most alien place on earth” as its trees and landscape create an out of this world feeling. Whether you want to explore the mountains or swim in the crystal clear water, this island is an experience of a lifetime.
Rec #3
Jim Thrope, PA

Want to stay local but feel like you are a million miles away? The town of Jim Thorpe in Pennsylvania might be the place for you. Just two hours from New York City is a Swiss-like village filled with small houses and quaint streets. The town is named after Olympic Gold Medalist Jim Thorpe and is especially popular during the holiday season so make sure you plan ahead if you want to stay overnight!
