As you know, our social app Seek recently launched in the New York City area, and we thought we would take this opportunity to tell you a little more about it.
It’s the BEST place to find unique and trusted recommendations from local, like-minded curators.
My name is Shanna Liu and I am the Co-Founder and CEO of Seek. 🙂

We had the idea for Seek back in 2019 after working at Stash. For those of you that do not know what Stash is, it is also an app but allows you to invest any amount of money quickly into the stocks you want. While at Stash, I was going out a lot and always looking for reviews on the places I found online to make sure going there was worth it. While some of the reviews on the major sites appeared to be authentic, most were clearly written in exchange for money, by employees at the restaurants or even from bots. I wanted to find out of the box, real reviews from people who ACTUALLY visited these places regularly, had recs on what to try and when to visit. I also wanted to know what the vibe was at these places. Was this bar a good place to meet people in their 30s or was it a bunch of college kids that were typically there? When Covid hit, I wanted to find places that took the virus seriously and were “Covid conscious”.
That is where Seek comes in. We personally vet all the curators we onboard on our platform. We make sure their recs are ones that they actually visit, shop or eat at. What sets us apart from other apps like ours is that we do not want thousands of curators/reviewers/influencers on our app. We also do not care how many followers our curators have (say WHAT?!). That is right, you heard us correctly. We only care that each curator is unique, takes the time to write thoughtful content and gives recs that like-minded users will be better off knowing about.
This is why we stand apart from other apps. We care more about the quality of our recs than having thousands of curators. Less is more, in our opinion.
