Earlier this year, NBC reporter Christ Chmura published a segment about Yelp that led him to
conclude he will never trust another online review again (check it out at: https://lnkd.in/eBV6zYSM).
Many Yelp reviewers, including “Yelp Elites”, admit to posting fake positive reviews for payment. Many of them have also posted multiple fake negative reviews for competitors of the businesses paying them!
After working in the consumer leisure recommendations space for over 2 years, our CEO, Shanna Liu, has found a surprisingly high number of reviewers on social media platforms that have also been paid sometimes over $5000 to go to restaurants, bars, shows, events, and more JUST to hype them up – regardless if the places are actually good experiences.
