Must See Burlesque Shows, From a Burlesque Dancer

Are you ever looking for the “best burlesque shows near me?” Look no further! Here is where to find the best burlesque shows and venues in New York City, as recommended by professional burlesque dancer Sassie LeFay (@sassielefay)!

167 Orchard Street, NY

The Slipper Room first opened in 1999 in the Lower East Side, at the start of the neo-burlesque scene in New York City. It sticks well to its original mission of showcasing up-and-coming talent, featuring comedy, magic, and of course, striptease. It’s a cozy venue with a main floor and a balcony, although you get a better view from the main floor. Take a look at the show guide here to see what show is on tonight (they have burlesque shows every Sunday) and remember to reserve tickets in advance!

308 Bowery, NY

Duane Park is an upscale supper club serving a delicious meal alongside live performances and burlesque. The dim lighting, high ceilings and gorgeous craft cocktails make this the perfect spot for special occasions There are a variety of burlesque dancers that perform for each event, and along with the talented host of the show, they all provide stunning entertainment. Make sure to dress to impress, as their website says, there’s no such thing as overdressed.

2 Wyckoff Ave, Brooklyn, NY

This all-inclusive nightclub, which doubles as a performance venue, is located in Bushwick. They have a variety of programs, including burlesque, as well as drag nights and their dirty circus variety show. The venue includes a main stage and runway that lets the performer get close to the audience. House of Yes celebrates self-expression and preaches non-judgment, attracting a fun and diverse crowd, so definitely check it out if you’re looking to dance the night away in a safe space. Fun fact: the space used to be an ice warehouse!

383 Troutman St, Brooklyn, NY

Company XIV hosts critically acclaimed burlesque performances at Theater XIV, which has stadium seating with great views of the lavishly designed production. XIV describes itself as intertwining high- and low-brow entertainment that takes inspiration from the court of Louis XIV. You can buy tickets here for their signature shows, Nutcracker Rouge, Seven Sins and Magic Magique. Also, you can get a 10% discount with groups of 6 people or more, so enjoy the glamorous performances with your friends.

505 E 6th St, New York, NY

Club Cumming, named after actor Alan Cumming, hosts the Oh Yes! Burlesque show every Thursday in their intimate venue located in the East Village. Club Cumming prides itself on being a haven for the LGBTQ+ community with an inclusive environment. Each week, a new set of artists comes in to show off their acts, so you can watch a fresh performance every time you stop in. The space has limited seating so make sure to buy your tickets beforehand.

Last but not least, check out Seek’s Showcase Series with events ranging from comedy to singing, and of course, burlesque. The series is dedicated to highlighting local performers, so the audience members get a unique, intimate taste of New York City’s art and entertainment culture. Although the events are mainly centered on the mesmerizing performances, there is also plenty of time for drinking and mingling – and taking Seek-special polaroids during intermission if you’re lucky.
